h4. Carrier settings for M1 and Starhub were updated by Apple with the impending launch of the phone through these Telcos – MMS and Tethering will work without much hassle! (7 Dec)

h4. Update with ipcc files for M1 and Starhub (17 Aug)

Thanks to “musashi”:http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/member.php?u=4956 at “HWZ”:http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2406701, here are some updates to the configuration that will make it easier for you to do MMS and Tethering when you are on M1 and Starhub.

Here are the instructions quoted from musashi’s post:

Delete all profile(s) that you have installed from previous mobileconfigs. You can find them at the bottom of the Settings/General. Skip this step if you have none installed.

Goto Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network and click Reset Settings. You may want to copy the mms settings down first.

Restart the iPhone

Connect iPhone and backup your iPhone. After backup, disconnect your iPhone.

Follow the instructions here on how to enable carrier bundle support. For “Mac Users”:http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4209. For “Windows Users”:http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4271.

After enabling carrier bundle support, proceed to download the custom ipcc file from the list below

** “M1 ipcc with logo”:http://iheartapple.org/e/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Mobileone_sg_v1-1.zip
** “M1 ipcc w/o logo”:http://iheartapple.org/e/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Mobileone_sg_non_op_v1-1.zip
** “Starhub ipcc with logo”:http://iheartapple.org/e/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Starhub_sg-v1-1.zip
** “Starhub ipcc w/o logo”:http://iheartapple.org/e/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/Starhub_sg_non_op-v1-1.zip

Connect your iPhone and start iTunes.

Option+Check for Update (Mac) or Shift+Check for Update (Win) and select the ipcc file to update.

This will take a very short while. After updating, You will see that shwapint as the APN for cellular data and shmms as the APN for MMS plus MMS settings. No need to change anything.

Restart your iPhone and try it out.

Note:

  • Do not change the APNs after updating. You will have to redo all the steps again.
  • Remember to quit iTunes completely before applying the carrier bundle support.
  • Credits to the following guys at HWZ: alanwwm for the Group MMS and SMS fix. newbish for supplying M1 settings and ghasse4 for version 1.1

Try it out and let me know how it goes.

For many out there who got their hands on iPhones while on StarHub or M1, if you have not download OS 3.0, why wait?

For those who had done so, if you are trying to figure how to MMS, there’s a few more steps to take to have that configured.

To start, go to Settings -> Network -> Cellular Date Network

For Starhub users, key in the following settings:

  • APN: shmms
  • MMSC: mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002
  • MMS PROXY: 10.12.1.80

For M1 users (can anyone verify?), key in the following settings:

for M1 Prepaid

  • APN: miworldmcard
  • USERNAME: 65
  • PASSWORD: user123
  • MMSC: http://mmsgw:8002/
  • MMS PROXY: 172.16.14.10:8080

For M1 Postpaid

  • APN: miworld
  • USERNAME: 65
  • PASSWORD: user123
  • MMSC: http://mmsgw:8002/
  • MMS PROXY: 172.16.14.10:8080

Leave the rest of the fields blank. Reboot your iPhone (press and hold HOME and SLEEP/WAKE button at the top for ten or more seconds until the Apple logo appears), than enter your mobile number when requested.

Let me know if it there are any problems.

    :(

  11. For M1 Postpaid

    * USERNAME: 65
    * PASSWORD: user123
    * MMSC: http://mmsgw:8002/
    * MMS PROXY: 172.16.14.10:8080

this works for mine… after reboot, when you go to the SMS tab, will prompt you to go to your settings to save your phone number. And is DONE.

    Thanks!

  12. still no luck :(
every time its sending the network bar goes low, next thing is :”message failed”
3G is on and wifi off

  13. It perfectly works for starhub one :))

  14. I have 2 phones updated with 3.0..
Under settings -> Phone I can see the “my number” on top of the page… for one of the phones I can activate my number, for the other phone not…

    Any idea why?

The mms works on the phone where “my number” can be activated… the other phone does not work with mms…
Both phones are running on M1 SIM Cards…

    Please help…

  15. hi.. i have follow all the settings. but i still cant send sms… please guide me ..

    thanks..

  16. Anw. just to side track a little, does MMS uses data from our 3g connection or does it works like SMS (like the carrier just charges u based on the number of MMS sent monthly) or is it a different thing altogether? BTW, I don’t have a data plan on my mobile plan, that’s why I’m curious to know if sending MMS will incur extra charges for me through usage of 3g data or what.

    Many thanks in advance!

  17. I’ve tried again and again and again but it won’t work :( I’m on Starhub.

    *Help?! =

    I keyed in exactly:
    shmms
    mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002
    10.12.1.80

When I rebooted, it didn’t ask for my number though….

  18. Hi Jimmy
    sadly no. “message fail”

  19. Just wondering why did network bar drop to zero whiLe sending mms

  20. Spot on for Starhub, thanks Jimmy!

  21. Hi Jimmy. I’m on starhub and I followed your settings It works for my phone. Thank u for sharing.

  22. I’m a Starhub user and it didn’t work at first, I rang up Starhub and found out that my MMS was not activated. To those that still have problems, ring up Starhub and ask if your MMS is activated.

  23. Ok, so it all works now, but I can’t MMS to my boyfriend in Melbourne who uses 3 because Starhub and 3 don’t have an agreement -.- ffs.

  24. Thanks, M1 user here. Your description was spot on! works for me.

  25. Lovely!! Thanks.

  26. thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. for starhub, the settings above work from jimmy.

i was asked to input my number after restart.

make sure mms/gprs is enabled with your postpaid line.

  28. hi i’m on starhub and i tried the following settings:

    * APN: shmms
    * MMSC: mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002
    * MMS PROXY: 10.12.1.80

when i clicked on send (with the selected photo), the send bar goes all the way to about 90%, after which it’ll stop and the message “your message not sent. Tap “try again” to send this message” appears.

i called up starhub and they confirmed that the mms service has been activated.

but the thing is, i got an sms frm starhub asking me to setup my phone to get mms and to type ‘S and send the sms to 2000.

so i typed in ‘S appleiphone’ and sent it off. nothing happened after that. i tried again with ‘S iphone’ sent again and still nothing happened :(

i called starhub again but they said that the tech guys will get back to me by tomorrow.

anyone experiencing the same prob as me?

  29. Hi all,

    M1 iPhone 2G user here.

Tried rebooting immediately after inputting the MMS settings a few times but still couldn’t work.

Sending of MMS will be stuck near the finish and ultimately, cannot send.

Also, the settings couldn’t save the APN, username and password settings….

    Please advise.

    Thanks!

  30. Dear All,

The settlings for MMS and GPRS is correct.

The problem M1 Iphone users are facing is when u key in the user name as sunsurf – Gprs will work and MMS will not. and vice versa when user name is keyed as miworld, mms will work and not GPRS.

So i am not very sure if this can be solved. i am using a 2g iphone. just had a hard time downgrading from 3.0 to 2.2.1, took me 2 days to get it fixed.

Advice, i rather stick to 2.2.1 as of now 1st til v3 have more solution and apps.

  31. Hi.

Use Jimmy’s MMS settings on my “modified” 2G iPhone with MMS, the “shmms” in the APN field wouldn’t stick after reboot, it would be gone. Also tried 2nd settings the MMSC with the full “http://…”.

Both settings and a MMS attempt fails.

Is there any other reason why this is not working?

    Thanks

  32. The APN and , username and password are not saved after entering in the MMS setting field.
    Please help.
    Thanks

  33. shmms dont stay
    the mmsc and proxy stayed

    on iPhone 2G 3.0

  34. hi all… i am M1 ROYAL customer!!!

    pls help…

  35. doesn work for me. whenever i try to add the apn, user and pw infor under the mms settings, it always end up as empty when i exit and go back in. like the changes not saved.

    any ideas to fix this?

  36. Hi Guys,

StarHub’s ‘official’ line on this (July 23, 2009) is that they do not support the iPhone and, because of that, we cannot use MMS (or they weren’t willing to provide the configuration settings).

However, my mobile plan includes 500 ‘SMS/MMS’ and they have stated that you can use either one, as long they do not, together, exceed 500 messages. Since the limitation is with the plan, and not with the phone, I do not see why this can’t be used on iPhones.

Thanks to the information posted here, just configuring as indicated, and restarting the phone bring MMS functionality to the iPhone 3G on StarHub. I’ve tried sending three messages, but only one was successful,. The two had a failure indication. I am able to receive MMS messages, but the iPhone tells me that I have an incoming ‘text message’. I’d like to test the sending on a ST iPhone.

They have also told me that MMS bandwidth is separate from any data plan you might have.

  37. Hi,

    I am using 2g, but 3.0.

I could not find the MMSC and proxy settings, only APN. Please advise.

  38. hi jimmy, it works for me now, all the M1 setting is ok.
but it doesn’t connect through 3G network. after i enable EDGE, it does connect.
i guess that’s M1 yet to support 3G for data?

  39. Hi, M1 user here. This might help. I initially followed the steps but still failed. In “my phone number” i added the +65 infront of my number and it worked. =)

  40. hi i am on starhub, followed the instructions ..am able to send mms but cant receive it. help?

    thanks!
    jo

  41. i’ve tried it again for starhub, it doesn’t seem to work after i’ve upgraded to the o/s 3.0.1

    anyone got the same problem?

    • Upgraded to the latest o/s 3.0.1. Tried all website and even called up Starhub/Singtel & AppleCare. But MMS still not able to sent thru. It’ll stop and hang at 80% of the process.

  42. Hi, I m a starhub user and follow all the above. I can send mms within singapore but not to overseas mobile please help

  43. hi, im M1 user, tried the settings, bt after switch on back, dosent prompt to key in phone no. pls advice. thanks

  44. If i set the APN as miworld (M1) , it till not allow me to surf www sites….. in the iphone setting there is a APN under mms setting but it does not save eyerytime i key in … only the APN will not be saved… why is that so ah?

  45. For M1 prepaid, you need to activate MMS first by calling #100*4*1# if you haven’t done so before…

And don’t forget to fill in the APN and username at Cellular Data, not just under MMS… I used the same as what I filled in for MMS. Username is phone number with 65 infront. I left password empty.

I didn’t restart nor did it prompt me to enter my phone number, but it worked by using the fields specified by Jimmy (except username i used my phone number 659####### and left password empty) … I’m using M1 Prepaid btw. Thanks!

  46. This is awesome Jimmy. It works perfectly well for me :)

  47. I still cant send o recieve mms. I use starhub prepaid. Please text me i m online nw on yahoo messenger

thanks for the setting. I am on M1 Sim card, using the iphone3GS.

I can send out MMS but I realise that I am unable to receive MMS! I didn’t realise this until my friends told me that they had MMS-ed me but I didn’t get any notification!

I keyed in my phone number, did the M1 postpaid setting… i even tried to MMS myself using the M1 website but I still cannot get any MMS.

    Can anyone help?

  53. Thank you so much for this tutorial!

    For M1 post paid:

    Cellular Data
    APN: sunsurf

    Password: [leave blank]

Leaving those two fields blank worked for me, but I am currently overseas on roaming.

    • After upgrading my software to 3.1.2., I am unable to set up the ipcc configuration while following the above instructions. The ipcc file is still grayed out, and thus am unable to select it. I am not sure if I have unzipped it correctly, but after extracting the zip file, the file name states, ‘mobileone_sg.bundle’. Even when i tried to change the extension to ipcc, it still does not work. I am using a mac by the way. Can anyone help or advise?

  54. for Starhub users using Iphone 3GS on 3.1.2 these are the settings that work to send and receive MMS.
Note, you cannot send overseas for some unknown reason.

go to settings, go to general, go to network, go to cellular data network

    cellular data
    APN shwapint
    username star
    password hub

    MMS
    APN shmms
    MMSC mms.starhubgee.com.sg:8002
    MMS Proxy 10.12.1.80

thats all you need to send and receive.

  55. If someone would be kind enough to enlighten everyone why starhub iphone 3gs 3.1.2 cannot send mms overseas please or what is the procedure to correct it.

  56. I have an unlocked cell phone and a Verizon Blackberry Tour (work phone). I”m in Singapore for business and my blackberry is using M1 for cellular and data. I have a global data plan.

    1) I pulled the sim card from the blackberry, and placed in my unlocked iphone.
    2) I did the ipcc update for m1
    3) I succesfully get cellular voice and sms.
    4) But I can’t seem to get Data up. Anyone have any suggestions? I tried first using the ipcc settings after restart. I then also tried the miworld/65/user123 settings. But I keep getting “could not activate Cellular data network” when i do a data application

    • well, I think I figured it out. I noticed that my Blackberry would only support a data connection on M1. If it connected to starhub, then I would lose data.

So when I put the sim in my iPhone I assumed I needed to use M1. Apparently not.

I set the carrier to starhub, with nothing populated for APN or MMS. And boom, I got data.

  57. Thanks for the tip on the MMS setting. It works! I called M1 up numerous times and they kept tell me to leave out the username and password for the MMS setting. Arrgghh!!!

    Cheers!

  58. I’m M1 unlimited mobile broadband subscriber. Juz wonder if i insert the M1 mbb sim card in to iphone to surf net will incurred extra usage charges or juz simply pay the monthly subscription?

  62. Hi, im using starhub but i could not configure my mms. after going to the settings>network i couldnt find Cellular Date Network. Yes, im having the same problem as AirBrush & Help.

It was working fine before but I itch-finger let iTunes check for carrier updates, thinking Starhub is now officially allowed… :(

  63. i had that problem, too. but it’s supposed without a hitch. anyone calling starhub?

    • To AirBrush, Help, Settings Gone & edvarcl,

I used to have the same problem (missing Cellular Data Network) but now it resolved. Just make sure that you do the Step 5 as indicated in the post :-

“5. Follow the instructions here on how to enable carrier bundle support. For Mac Users. For Windows Users. ”

After that, follow the Step 6 to 10. If later iTunes prompts you that whether you want to update the cellular software, just click Cancel.

This should recover the missing Cellular Data Network. It works for my iPhone 3GS version 3.1.2. Cheers!

  64. i am using M1 mbb sim card and insert into iphone, how am i able to start surfing and get connected to web, any configuration needed or step that i can get connected to web.
