h4. With M1 and “Starhub launching their iPhone soon”:http://iheartapple.org/2009/12/starhub-announces-iphone-pricing/, Apple has push their carrier settings for these two Telcos via iTunes and you should be able to start tethering without having to jailbreak. (7 Dec)
h4. Check out the updated configuration instructions that will sort the tethering issue for Starhub and M1 users “here”:/2009/06/setting-up-mms-for-starhub-and-m1-iphone-users/
Internet Tethering is a new feature with OS 3.0 that allows you to share your Internet connection from your iPhone via 3G, to your laptop, either with USB or Bluetooth connection.
For Starhub and M1 users, you will first need to install a mobile configuration file that you can download from this site “http://www.iphone-notes.de/mobileconfig/”:http://www.iphone-notes.de/mobileconfig/.
Make sure you choose the correct Carrier (Starhub or M1) and key in an email address which you can access via your iPhone.
Once that is done, when you receive the email with the configuration in an attachment, click on the attachment and click Install. Click OK and Done when the option is available during the installation process.
Next, restart your iPhone – press and hold the Sleep/Wake button at the top of your iPhone and slide your finger across the slider to switch off the iPhone, then switch it ON again.
Check the Tethering Settings when you access Settings-> General-> Networking as seen in the image on the side.
To learn how to use your iPhone as a modem, read this “Apple document on doing that”:http://www.apple.com/iphone/how-to/index.html#basics.using-iphone-as-a-modem.
(infomation via “HWZ”:http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2399235 and “Tim Chong”:http://twitter.com/z_sq/status/2216185602)
Update – seems like for Starhub, its either MMS or Tethering and not both — together (see user feedback at “HWZ”:http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=2399235&page=3#35). Will update the page when a better solution is found
Update 2 – for those who had problems with the settings from the previous site – try surfing with Mobile Safari on your iPhone to “help.BenM.at/help.php”:help.BenM.at/help.php and install via Safari. Next, change your Cellular Data settings from shmms to shwapint, user and password left blank. Reboot and try. Tested by “mambo31″:http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?p=38456294#40 at HWZ.
Disclaimer – I am not able to test as I still don’t own an iPhone (point fingers and toes at StarHub).

Hi guys…
Thanks for the information.
However, after everything is set up on my iPhone and i’ve restarted it, the settings disappear once i actually try to connect the phone to the internet. The Internet Tethering option just disappears and an eror message pops out on my mac.
Help!
Prakash
Hi Prakash,
Resend the config file to yourself once again. You should see APN as sunsurf for M1 users, as opposed to mobilenet.
This will help you switch on internet tethering.
Regards.
Actually there’s an easier way to turn on tethering.
First is to plug your singtel sim card into the iphone. Then go to settings > general > network and turn on internet terthering. Switch off the phone and put back your M1/Starhub sim card. Turn it back on and if you go to settings again, it should be there already.
My iphone dont have any problem, ive downloaded this “shawpint” and everything works fine. Now im surfing using the cellular data network and im able to use internet tethering on my notebook and desktop without any problem using bluetooth or usb.
But just one question this tethering it would be charged to my data plan right? Coz right now I already subscribe to a data max plan which is capped at $36/ mo. And starhub told me its unlimmited data, and i checked my data usage it accumulates everytime I use tethering so its correct?
Internet tethering and MMS worked on M1 Postpaid with Singtel iPhone 3GS with instructions from above. APN for internet should be sunsurf though.
I am using M1 on iphone 3G, it seems either MMS or tethering, whenever mobileconfig is reinstall tethering works ut mms setting gets changes.
When you update the MMS setting tethering configuraitons is removed. Any idea how to retain both settings permemantly?
Any help is much appreaciated
this is good, i will try later…
does anyone know this will work for iphone 3GS ?
M1 Internet Tethering works but MMS won’t. If you change the MMS settings, if you try Internet tethering again, the option will disappear. I would suggest, you update the configuration setting, including MMS settings:
APN: miworld
username: 65
password: user123
Doesn’t for any carrier in Singapore at help.BenM.at/help.php
Dun even try. It wipe out ur existing settings
Thanks and it working fine at my 3gs with 3.01. When I just upgrade to 3.1 it not work any more! Need help. I using M1.
David, I am in the same situation as you. Once upgraded to 3.1, Tethering does not work anymore. Can anyone help?
I still waiting for someone to help. Tethering function not work with 3.1. But when you using Singtel SIM to 3.1 iphone, tethering function come back. Looks like some config problem.
These are my personal opinion.
This is very frustrating. I am a big FAN of Apple products. And I really enjoy its’ technology, especially the revolutionary iPhone. I once owned a 1st gen iPhone. I do not understand why is Apple doing this. I know that business collaborations with ISP like AT&T, SingTel, etc, are part and parcel of growing the business and increasing the revenue stream.
HOWEVER, We as M1 or SH subscribers paid a premium for the iPhone. We all know how high is the non-contract price. BUT personally, I am willing to buy it. Because I am buying the technology of the phone. And I enjoyed using it so far.
Tethering is a Technology that comes with the phone, not the ISP. I paid M1 for the service which enables me to surf the net on my phone. BUT why is Tethering blocked if I use a M1 sim card. I do not understand. To me, I am being blocked from using a Technology that I paid for. I am very disappointed.
Does anyone of you out there feels this way?
I had call M1 and ask them. They say never do anything to block the tethering function. But they are not apple iphone dealer. They also don’t have information to help for config.
YES! I absolutely feel the same way. I should not have updated to 3.1 if Internet tethering is disabled. Cmon APPLE!
Please, can someone fix this ASAP? Instead of being a lifestyle product, the feature is being removed to disrupt it.
I didn’t receive the email with the attachment. Someone pls help
Received this reply from IDA
SingTel Mobile does not disable the tethering function on the iPhone when the SIM card of another mobile operator is inserted into the phone. Rather, Apple has not configured the tethering function to be compatible with M1’s or StarHub’s network. For a M1 or StarHub subscriber to use the tethering function, he would need to upload a M1 or StarHub configuration file respectively. However, as Apple has only provided the configuration file for SingTel, the M1 and StarHub configuration files do not exist in Apple’s database today.
no need to go through so much trouble. just jack your iPhone into iTunes 9 and it will update internet tethering by itself!
tested using iphone 3gs on starhub line
