Archives For ipod touch

“TechCrunch”:http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/30/large-form-ipod-touch-to-launch-in-fall-09/ posted an article saying that Apple might release a large form iPod Touch for 2009.

bq. We’ve got this from three independent sources close to Apple: expect a large screen iPod touch device to be released in the Fall of `09, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. Prototypes have been seen and handled by one of our sources, and Apple is talking to OEMs in Asia now about mass production.

Many were speculating that Apple will come up with a small size MacBook like those NetBooks available out in the market, but don’t you think the iPod Touch is just like one, sans the keyboard.

With Apple having such success with the iPhone, iPod Touch, paired with the iTunes and App Store, having a large form iPod Touch will satisfy fans’ craving for 1) a Tablet and 2) a NetBook.

If priced attractively between the MacBooks and iPod Touch, it might carve out a niche like how the iPods did back when it was launched. Schools will be a good target market for such a device.

As it is, these rumors of a tablet/netbook/big-ass-Touch almost always surface before a MacWorld, so take it with a Touch-ful of salt. I wonder whether that Tech Crunch source that held it was a friend of Big Foot.

Mobile Me Sync setting

It does work. From my iMac to me.com to my iPod Touch, the changes on my Address Book are reflected within one minute online and my iPod Touch.

However, you would need to set your MobileMe Sync setting in System Preference to sync “Automatically” for that to happen (see image above).

More details about the changes in the syncing behavior with this update can be found at this “Knowledge Base article”:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1155 (via “The Apple Blog”:http://theappleblog.com/2008/12/15/apple-makes-mobileme-changes/#more-13339).

PasteBud works…

PasteBud

Yes there is Copy and Paste on your iPhone/iPod Touch, if you don’t mind going through hoops and potential “problems if you don’t configure correctly”:http://technologizer.com/2008/12/12/pastebud-it-seemed-like-a-good-idea/.

There is a need to configure to use “PasteBud”:http://pastebud.com/ – two bookmarks for executing the Cut and Paste, and the more important email address that acts as the conduit between the text that was copied and for pasting.

Make sure the bookmarks are edited correctly and that the email address is stored correctly so that the system works. However I still hope Apple implements copy and paste soon.

Two weeks back we had “VMware Fusion”:/2008/12/speeddownload-and-vmware-fusion-sale/ having a sale, and now there’s one from Parallels. Deal is sweet – buy one get one free for a nice price of US$79.99 (est S$120.47) for a limited time. Do check it out while still available. The one most-wanted function on the iPhone – Cut & Paste, has been on most people’s wish list for Apple to fulfill. YET, nothing has come out of it. However, a site called PasteBud has came up with one that gives a limited form of cutting and pasting between Mobile Safari and Mail. According to “Gizmodo”:http://gizmodo.com/5107138/iphone-copy-and-paste-now-working-between-safari-and-mail

bq. PasteBud works using two bookmarks in Safari. One prepares and loads the page you are viewing, ready to select text at the touch of a finger. From there, you can copy any text you want and create a new mail message with that text in it. In addition to that, you will be able to copy and paste in the text field of a different web page

Though limited, it shows that it is possible for Apple if they want to implement cut and paste. As it is, PasteBud will be available from 12 December. Do wait and see.

iBoobLastly, something for your weekend. iBoob. An iPod-ready speaker that is shaped like, let’s just read the site’s description:

“Tap tap tap”:http://www.taptaptap.com/blog/10-useful-iphone-tips-and-tricks/ posted a list of useful iPhone tips and tricks that we might not know. For example how when you hold on to a punctuation key, there will be an expanded window with variations you can key in. Or holding onto the Home button for at least six seconds force quit any opened application.

Some other tips that I know of and not included there:

Magnifying Glass

  • pressing and holding onto the text you typed, will pop a magnifying glass that allows you to scroll to any characters for easy corrections. Works the same in Safari’s URL bar
  • applications that are not compatible on the iPod Touch, will not show up in the App Store when you search for the app even though the search results will show the app’s name

Do share if you have found some deep-dark secret tips and tricks for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
