50 Billion

That’s a 50 with nine zeroes behind. 50,000,000,000.

The App Store opened in July 2008 and hit the 100 million app downloads mark in two months. By April 2009 it hit its first billion mark. By Jan 2011 it hit the 10 billion mark.

If you’re the lucky one to download the 50,000,000,000th app, you could win a nice US$10,000 App Store Gift Card. If you happen to be the next 50 downloaders after the 50,000,000,000th, you can still win US$500 App Store Gift Card.

Alternatively, you can also enter this sweepstake without purchasing or downloading any app but fill up this form … but where’s the fun?

In order to win, you need to be 13 years of age or older at the time of entry…plus other rules here.

At post time, the counter is 700-million apps short of the magic number…keep a look out!

Bored of the local radio stations with their crappy ads and crappier DJs and not able to get access to US-based services like Pandora or Spotify or not looking to pay Apple with their iTunes Music Match service? HypedMusic might be the solution for you.

Developed by Luke Li, the service allows you to stream music legally from anywhere in the world. By logging in via FaceBook, you can also save and sync playlists across devices – currently accessible via the web, iPhone and Android app.

As mentioned earlier, HypedMusic is legal to use as it taps free to use APIs from other sites that is compliant with DMCA’s fair use policy.

At this point, music discovery is via a Popular list or via search and adding of songs to playlist is much more convenient on the site than on the app. But teething issues aside, HypedMusic has potential to be big, especially outside the USA.

Plus who doesn’t like a free service?

iTunes 11
Apple has released iTunes 11, after a few weeks delay since it was announced back in September. After 12 years, iTunes 11 has come a long way since its humble beginnings back in 2001, when it was used to rip music for other music players…yes there wasn’t an iPod yet.

I’ve not had time to run through the app yet but here are some reviews from people who had:

Besides iTunes 11, Apple has also updated the Remote App to work with iTunes 11.

Go try and let us know how iTunes 11 is for you.
